Quality Control Supervisor

My client is
a leading supplier of specialty chemicals in selected customer segments, serving customers in a wide array of industries through customer-driven solutions. My client's operations are based on customer segments, which they serve by providing customer driven and tailor made solutions.
This position is responsible for the Quality Control Lab operations for analytical testing of raw materials and finished products. The primary objective of the QC lab is to ensure materials conform to established specifications. The QC Supervisor will manage the lab to meet production needs by working closely with other departments. The Quality Control Supervisor is the ISO/14001 Champion for the site. This position owns the QMS process and is responsible for leading continuous improvement efforts. Further responsibilities include providing education and training on the QMS, advising/auditing others on necessary requirements to ensure that their departments meet the objectives of the QMS. The successful candidate will be a strong advocate for data-based problem solving and process improvement using the Six Sigma approach.
Duties include:
- Responsible for safe and efficient operations of the Mobile Plant Quality Control Laboratory
- Supervising hourly Laboratory Technicians within contract requirements
- Maintain the laboratory to ISO standards
- Serve as the ISO and 14001 Management Representative.
- Maintain calibrations and monitor conditions of the Specialty Chemicals and Synthetic Size satellite labs
- Serve as a trained ISO Auditor
- Responsible for resolution of CPARs for all products originating at the Mobile Plant. This will require interface with commercial as needed to resolve issues that do not originate at Mobile
- Publish periodic Quality Alerts to the plant on ISO and general quality issues
- Ensure that all tests meet minimum acceptable criteria for variability, while striving to continuously improve the repeatability and reproducibility for all tests.
- Lead the Quality Improvement efforts for the Mobile Site using a data-based (Six Sigma) approach to problem solving and process improvement.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Comply with Safety, Health and Environmental standards of OSHA, EPA, etc. Provide safety leadership to ensure the laboratory has no injuries and no spills.
- Ensure the effective, uninterrupted operation of the Mobile Quality Control Lab and associated satellite labs.
- Maintain all lab equipment and instruments in proper working order, providing troubleshooting and repair expertise as needed.
- Maintain relationships with all vendors providing instrument and software support, working through Procurement for any contractual needs.
- Maintain tools and resources necessary to meet the manufacturing needs of the Mobile Plant.
- Control and minimize operating costs. Develop and meet the budget for the Mobile QC lab.
- Manage and continually improve the QMS and serve as the Quality Management Representative for the site.
- Train, develop and motivate the lab staff by implementing a lab technician training program.
- Maintain accurate operating procedures and methods.
- Lead the laboratory staff in defining continual improvement efforts in the Mobile QC Lab.

Education/Experience Required (Must Have)
A bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or chemistry is required. The individual must have 5+ years leadership experience in a combination of manufacturing & technical areas in the chemical industry. This position requires strong leadership, technical competence, and computer and communication skills. The incumbent must be able to manage multiple projects/tasks at the same time. Six Sigma certification is strongly desired, but not required.
